Dr Sri Shanthikumara graduated in Sri Lanka in 1999. Since then he has worked in a variety of disciplines in medicine and surgery in hospitals as well as in general practice, nearly for 10 years, before coming to Australia.
Dr Sri Shanthikumara has completed Australian Medical Council exams, before obtaining my fellowship through RACGP in 2013.He worked as a full time after hours GP in Friendly Society Private Hospital, Bundaberg QLD. In addition to common general practice scenarios, it was an unforgettable experience in managing most of the acute medical and surgical emergencies, including emergencies related to fishing, diving, bites and stings. Later, he worked as a full time GP in a small beautiful country town called Huonville in TAS, where he had a different exposure to manage illnesses and emergencies related to agricultural and livestock industries. Further, he looked after residents in a nursing home, on a regular basis, with special attention to their end of life comfort including palliative care. Before coming back to my usual homely environment in QLD, he worked as a locum GP in Canberra for last 3 months, where he treated so many nationalities including refugees, a new experience, which had much to do with cultural attitudes other than general medicine. Finally, In addition to my contribution to multidisciplinary care for chronic diseases and workers compensation issues, he is interested in managing skin diseases, including excisions and biopsies, minor surgical procedures, men’s health, women’s health, child health and geriatrics.
